2009-10 New York Jets Season

The priority for the Jets this season was hiring a new Head Coach. After many interviews and an attempt to bring former Head Coach Bill Cower out of retirement, the Jets settled on the Baltimore Ravens Defensive Coordinator Rex Ryan. Along with Ryan, the Jets signed former Ravens LB Bart Scott and former Ravens S Jim Leonard.

Leaving the team were Laveranues Coles (who signed with the Bengals) and kicker Mike Nugent (signed with the Buccaneers). The Jets also traded CB Lito Sheppard to the Philadelphia Eagles for a 2009 5th round draft pick and a conditional 2010 draft pick.

In the draft, the Jets used their first round pick on USC QB Mark Sanchez (5th overall pick), their 3rd round pick on Iowa RB Shonn Greene (65th overall pick) and their 6th round pick on Nebraska-Lincoln G Matt Slauson (193rd overall pick).

On August 26th the Jets named Mark Sanchez the Starting Quarterback over veteran QB Kellen Clemens.
